How to use a dew point comfort chart for outdoor humidity

Find the observed dew point in either the Celsius or Fahrenheit column, then read across to the general feel and explanation. Unlike relative humidity, the same dew point remains a comparable measure of atmospheric moisture as the air warms or cools.

Treat each boundary as a gradual transition rather than an exact threshold. Clothing, activity, sunlight, wind, acclimatization, and personal preference can make two people describe the same air differently.

What dew point is comfortable, humid, or oppressive?

Many people describe dew points below about 60°F (16°C) as relatively comfortable. Moisture becomes more noticeable from roughly 60–65°F (16–18°C), while readings above 65°F (18°C) often feel humid because sweat evaporates less readily.

Dew points above 70°F (21°C) feel very humid to many people, and values above 75°F (24°C) are commonly described as oppressive. These are broad perception bands for outdoor air, not medical limits or indoor humidity standards.

Dew point comfort examples in Celsius and Fahrenheit

A 50°F (10°C) dew point usually indicates relatively dry air. A 64°F (18°C) dew point can feel noticeably humid during exercise, and a 73°F (23°C) dew point often feels very humid even before air temperature is considered.

Dew point versus relative humidity for measuring comfort

Dew point follows the actual amount of water vapor, so a 70°F dew point represents similarly moist air whether the air temperature is 80°F or 95°F. Relative humidity changes with temperature and may be much lower during the warmer observation.

Relative humidity remains useful for showing how close air is to saturation at its current temperature. At night, RH can rise as air cools even when dew point changes very little. Why a dew point chart is not a heat-safety forecast

This chart describes general moisture perception without combining it with air temperature. A humid dew point on a mild day and the same dew point during extreme heat can produce very different thermal stress.
